Miguel Ladeira Santos
A young entrepreneur and the visionary leader of the Sharing Education Group, Miguel is the CEO of the group. With a background in Luxury Hospitality Management and Corporate Finance from Les Roches and London School of Business and Finance, he brings a high-end customer service approach to all his ventures. His experience spans diverse markets, including Qatar, the United States and Spain.
Since the inception of the Sharing Education Group, Miguel has been the driving force behind its growth, continuously pushing the organisation to adopt cutting-edge solutions. His success is fuelled by his passion for delivering results and creating value in every project he undertakes.
Whether leading teams or spearheading new business ventures, his ability to combine vision with practical execution has earned him recognition as a versatile and forward-thinking entrepreneur.
Francisco Ladeira Santos

Francisco Ladeira Santos
Francisco spent his childhood and teenage years split between Madeira and Lisbon – a hint of what his professional life would look like in a few years. After finishing high school in Madeira, Francisco moved to Lisbon more definitively to study Management at ISEG Lisbon School of Economics and Management, whilst at the same time initiating his career leading the Finance, Legal and Administrative Departments of the Group, headquartered in Madeira Island.
His role has since evolved to his current functions as Vice-President and CFO, actively developing and implementing Sharing Education Group’s strategic vision and growth whilst maintaining the coordination of each school’s Finance, Legal and Administrative Departments.
Traveling between Lisbon, Madeira and the Algarve, Francisco knows each school very well and is one of the Group’s biggest enthusiasts of the relentless pursuit of perfection.

With a background in education in Marketing and Financial Investments, from IADE and London School of Business and Finance, Filipe leads the Purchasing and Procurement departments of the Sharing Education Group, ensuring that each team is equipped with the essential tools and resources needed to operate efficiently and effectively
He has played a crucial role in the group’s expansion, contributing to the opening of schools in Lisbon, Africa and the Algarve, while managing the school in Madeira.
With the growth and development of the Group, Filipe’s role has evolved to encompass the overall management of purchasing and procurement, ensuring solid and sustainable development for the organisation.

Gonçalo Ladeira Santos
With an extensive international background, Gonçalo is currently leading the Sales & Marketing team of the Sharing Education Group.
Having completed his studies at Glion and London School of Business in both Switzerland and London, Gonçalo gained valuable experience working in dynamic cities such as Lisbon, Dubai, Barcelona, and London, with a strong focus on hospitality and customer centric roles.
Taking on a pivotal role in the family business, Gonçalo leads and shapes the strategic sales and marketing direction of the Group. With his vision and expertise, he ensures a cohesive approach across all campuses, driving growth and strengthening the Group’s presence in the educational sector.
A familiar face at the school, Gonçalo is highly involved in its operations, ensuring the highest standards of quality are consistently met across all campuses.

It is both an honor and a privilege to lead International Sharing School – Oeiras Valley as Principal. Our unique learning spaces promotes a mindset of openness, exploration and innovation and we are fortunate to call Lisbon our home and all that it offers for our international school.
Over the past 23 years of my professional career, I have worked in the UK, China and Europe, gaining much teaching and leadership experience across the wide range of areas that make up a school community.
As a parent, I understand the importance of a child’s education and all that a school community provides for their development and happiness. I am deeply committed to leading the ISST community to allow all our students to achieve their very best and to enable them flourish into lifelong learners.

Ana Filipa Cruz
Ana Filipa is the Coordinator of the Foundation Programme, with a robust background in Early Childhood Education and Early Intervention.
Over the past twenty years, she has led numerous projects, built and supported teams, and worked closely with young learners, helping them develop foundational skills essential for their growth.
Ana is deeply committed to creating a nurturing and engaging environment, guiding students through each school year with warmth and dedication. Known for her hands-on approach, she is always available to lend a helping hand and support students, parents, and her team in any way she can.
Ana Filipa has a love for traveling, always seeking new experiences and cultures to explore. Her creativity shines through in photography, capturing moments that tell a story. An avid reader, she finds joy in books that inspire reflection and curiosity. Recently, Ana Filipa discovered a passion for yoga, embracing its balance and calm.
David Ferreira
Head of Diploma Programme (DP)
David Ferreira
With over 14 years in Education and Leadership, David has worked extensively across the PYP, MYP, and DP, gaining insight into each stage of a student’s IB journey. Currently Head of DP, David has also served as Workshop Leader, Head of Year, and Head of Department, contributing to Oxford Study Courses for exam preparation.
As an active member of the IB Team, David has participated as an IB Exams Standardisation Team Leader and joined strategic discussions at IB Headquarters in Cardiff. Passionate about gifted education, David was honored to receive an award for a Master’s research project presented at the ISAK World Conference.
David is passionate about Chocolate Labradors and has earned success as a National Breeder with “Lar do Labrador.” A former futsal player, David played for Del Negro and was recruited by Sporting Club de Portugal, even being selected for the Portuguese National Team.
Déspina Sarioglou

Déspina Sarioglou
With a strong academic foundation, including a Bachelor’s degree in Education, a Master’s in Mathematics, and a Certificate in School Management and Leadership from Harvard Business School, Déspina K. Sarioglou brings over 23 years of experience in international education.
Passionate about student well-being and the development of emotional intelligence within the school community, she remains committed to nurturing holistic growth. She empowers her team through trust and firmly believes that teachers are the greatest asset of any successful school. She considers herself fortunate to have the privilege of working with her dream team.
Outside of work, Déspina enjoys reading, illustrating, and writing, and has published two children’s books. A nature lover, she cherishes outdoor activities with her children and dogs, considering these moments among her most precious family memories.
Eduardo Cary

Eduardo Cary
Eduardo Cary is a dedicated educator and father of two lovely boys who keep him on his toes! He has been passionate about education since 2002, initially teaching Physical Education in his home country of Portugal.
Throughout his career, Eduardo has had the privilege of coordinating the Physical Education curriculum for the Primary Years Programme (PYP) in several schools.
A strong advocate for the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework, Eduardo believes in its holistic approach to education, emphasizing the development of the whole child. His international journey has enriched his perspective, allowing him to experience diverse educational landscapes in countries like Scotland, Thailand, Sudan, Qatar, Malaysia, and Sweden.
Eduardo loves to stay active, often going for a run, enjoying a game of basketball, hiking with his family, or exploring the open road on his motorbike.
Isabel Costa Pereira

Isabel Costa Pereira
Isabel Costa Pereira is a passionate and dedicated early years educator. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Early Years Education and has been teaching in the IB PYP for over 16 years.
Having grown up abroad, she has immersed herself in different cultures and experienced various international educational systems. As a former IB student herself, Isabel loves exploring and learning alongside her students as they build their skills to become life-long learners.
Beyond the classroom, she enjoys collaborating with colleagues and other educators to foster a stronger team spirit and develop a positive school culture. In her free time, Isabel enjoys spending time with her family and baking.
Isabel climbed Mount Kenya, loves ice cream, and competed in various synchronized swimming competitions.
Kate Sommerville
Head of Pastoral
Kate Sommerville
Kate brings over 20 years of experience in international education, having worked across IB continuum programmes in Hong Kong, South Korea, and Portugal. She holds a Master’s degree in Education Leadership, along with postgraduate diplomas in English Studies and Education Research.
As a pastoral leader, Kate specializes in designing pastoral curricula, fostering positive psychology, and promoting student leadership. She believes in the transformational power of education, where each member of the school community plays a vital role in supporting students.
Her educational approach is holistic, focusing on developmental stages, neurodiversity, and, above all, inclusion.
Kate challenges herself by rowing on the River Tejo in all conditions and participates in Lisbon’s half marathons, all while diligently studying Portuguese.
Viviana Serralha

Viviana Serralha
Viviana’s journey in education began with a degree in Sports Science and Physical Education, which allowed her to explore diverse educational environments across Brazil, the USA, and the UK. Driven by her passion for education, she pursued a master’s degree in Inclusive Education and currently, Viviana is enhancing her expertise in School Management and Leadership through a distinguished program at Harvard Business School.
With over twenty years of international experience, Viviana takes immense pride in leading an exceptional team of dedicated educators and staff at ISS. Viviana’s leadership emphasizes collaboration and innovation, ensuring that all students receive the support and opportunities they need to thrive academically and personally.
In her free time, she loves to travel, exploring new destinations and cultures that enrich her life. She enjoys being with her family and friends, cherishing the special moments they share together. Additionally, she is passionate about outdoor sports, embracing the beauty of nature while staying active and adventurous!

Inês Agostinho
Inês Agostinho holds a Master’s degree in Preschool Education and a Bachelor’s degree in Basic Education from the School of Education of Lisbon.
With mora than 10 years of experience in early childhood education, she has dedicated five of those years to working with infants from 4 months to 2 years old—a role that brought her immense joy as she finds working with young children deeply rewarding. Inês joined Sharing School in 2022, where she continues to nurture her passion for early childhood development.
Outside the classroom, Inês has a keen interest in early years literature and frequently participates in workshops and training sessions to further expand her expertise in this field.
Originally from the Algarve, Inês has a deep love for the sea, a black belt in karate, and a passion for travel.

Teresa Tourais
Teresa Tourais has been dedicated to working with infants for more than 15 years and has been with Sharing School since its opening in 2018.
Known for her caring and playful nature, Teresa is deeply committed to creating a warm, nurturing environment for the youngest learners. Before starting her career in education, she explored other professional fields but was always drawn back to her passion for working with children.
Beyond her role at school, Teresa enjoys spending quality time with her family and has a particular interest in art projects with children, where she encourages creative expression and exploration.
Teresa enjoys traveling, walking in nature, and cooking.
Filipa Cunha
Foundation 1/2 Teacher
Filipa Cunha
Filipa Cunha is a kindergarten teacher, and she studied early childhood education at the Escola Superior de Educação João de Deus. In 2007 she started working in the Associação de Jardins Escola João de Deus.
In 2010 she moved to a street context, she worked in Ludoteca João de Deus, project in deprived neighborhoods, in a mobile caravan that went to a different neighborhood every day. Here she led various workshops, gave skating lessons and served meals to children from 2 to 15 years.
Filipa has a passion for rollerblading, gliding through life with energy and excitement. She also loves capturing beautiful moments through photography, freezing time with her unique perspective and creative eye.
Paula Ferreira
Foundation 1/2 Teaching Assistant
Paula Ferreira
Paula began her career in education as a teacher assistant, which ignited a passion for working with children. After exploring various fields, she returned to education three years ago. Over the past two years, she worked with Foundation 2, and this year marks a new chapter as she embraces the challenges of working with younger age group.
The training in storytelling complements Paula’s natural talent for creating engaging narratives that foster young children’s imagination.
For her, the most important thing is to ensure that every child feels safe and valued, and her training in mental and physical well-being and safeguarding has helped Paula understand how to adapt her approach to the different ages she works with.
In her free time, Paula loves cinema and reading. These interests also inspire her storytelling and enrich the learning experiences she creates for children.
Carla Lopes

Carla Lopes
Carla graduated with a degree in Early Childhood Education from ISEC (Instituto Superior de Educação e Ciências) in 2007. Since then, she has worked in Portuguese schools for the past 17 years, primarily with children aged 0 to 5.
In recent years, she has increasingly focused on working with younger children and has been with our school for nearly six years.
Throughout her career, she has pursued further training in early childhood education and special educational needs.
In her free time, Carla enjoys outdoor activities with her daughter and trips to the beach. She has a particular fondness for egg custard tarts and loves shopping for new shoes.
Carla is also passionate about travelling and discovering new cultures. Interestingly, she still has a baby tooth and has a phobia of grasshoppers.

Ana Carolina Martins
Ana Carolina Martins completed a vocational course in educational assistance in 2005 and has dedicated the past eighteen years to working with children, including six years at ISS. Her experience primarily involves supporting children up to ten years old, but more recently, she’s been focused on working with younger children—a role she thoroughly enjoys.
Outside of work, Ana Carolina loves spending time with her son, going on walks to explore the outdoors. She’s also passionate about cooking Portuguese dishes and unwinding with a good movie. Her warmth and commitment make her a valued member of the team at ISS.
Ana Martins loves to read crime novels, is fascinated by Asian culture and has a gecko phobia.

Linda Duque
Linda France Alonso Duque was born in Mexico City and moved to Long Island, New York, at the age of four. At eight, her family relocated to Portugal, where she has lived ever since. She holds a degree in Educational Sciences and a Master’s in Educational Administration from a Portuguese university.
With over a decade of experience in early childhood education, Linda is passionate about fostering children’s curiosity, creativity, and independence. She believes in creating a nurturing and inclusive classroom environment where every child feels valued and encouraged to explore and express themselves.
Her play-based, student-centered approach ensures that learning is both academically enriching and joyful for young learners.
You’ll find Linda flowing through yoga poses, dancing to her favorite tunes, or singing her heart out; she’s all about surrounding herself with friends and family, cherishing those special connections, and a true believer in the power of words!

Beatriz, commonly known as Ms. Bea, is in her third year at ISS as a Nursery teacher. After spending eight years in hotel management, she decided to pursue her true passion: education.
Bea is known for her caring and responsible nature, along with her creativity and strong communication skills. She enjoys taking on new challenges and is eager to learn, always striving to bring fresh ideas and positive energy to inspire the children in her care.
Outside of the classroom, she is dedicated to fostering a nurturing environment that encourages curiosity and growth in her students.

Lidiane Oliveira

Lidiane Oliveira
Lidiane’s journey began in hospitality, a fast-paced field that matched her early love for dynamic, ever-changing environments. With a degree in Tourism and a Master’s in Hospitality Management, she never anticipated that volunteering at a primary school in 2014 would completely shift her career path.
Starting as a teaching assistant specializing in ESL support, Lidiane soon transitioned into teaching English. Committed to becoming a classroom teacher, she earned an international Post Graduate Certificate in Education (iPGCE) from the University of the West of England.
At ISS, Lidiane brings her passion for teaching and her diverse background to create an engaging learning environment.
Lidiane is a self-taught sewist with a passion for creating unique projects that showcase her creativity. She once ran a business transforming recycled wine corks into notice boards, merging sustainability with functionality. Additionally, she always chooses dessert before the main course!
Carla Margarido

With experience working with children of all ages, from infants to five-year-old’s, Carla is a valued member of the ISS family. Miss Carla is enthusiastic about building connections with her students and their families.
Outside of her professional life, Carla is married and a proud mother of three children. Her youngest is currently an ISS student since PYP5 and thrives in the supportive school community. The family also includes two beloved dogs, Francisca and Niki, who bring joy to their home.
Carla was born and raised in Portugal, bringing a vibrant European flair to her teaching style and sharing her cultural experiences with her students. An excellent cook, Miss Carla’s favorite food is pizza, and she often experiments with different toppings and recipes to delight her family and friends, with her favorite color being pink, adding a cheerful touch to her kitchen!

Giulia Bartolini
Giulia is a primary educator with a strong passion for teaching and a deep love for children’s literature. Born and raised in the culturally vibrant city of Bologna, Italy, she completed her primary education studies there.
Her passion for children’s literature is a cornerstone of her teaching philosophy. Giulia believes that stories have the unique ability to inspire imagination, foster empathy, and ignite a lifelong love for reading among young learners.
In addition to her literary interests, Giulia has a keen enthusiasm for studying new languages. This passion not only enhances her understanding of diverse cultures and perspectives but also enriches her teaching.
Giulia loves learning new languages, embracing the challenge and excitement of communicating in different tongues. She dances boogie woogie with enthusiasm, bringing energy and joy to the dance floor.

Carla hails from beautiful Lisbon, where she has spent her entire life, deeply influencing her love for culture and community. With 17 years of experience working with children, she began her career at a Portuguese school, gaining valuable experience in both Early Years and Primary education.
In 2019, Carla joined the International Sharing School, where she continues to nurture and inspire young minds in a diverse and inclusive environment.
Carla is particularly enthusiastic about art and hands-on activities, understanding their importance in sparking imagination and encouraging self-expression among children.
Carla loves going to the beach, soaking up the sun and enjoying the sound of the waves. She has a passion for visiting museums, where she can immerse herself in art and history, and she also has a strong desire to travel, exploring new places and experiencing different cultures along the way!

Mariana is originally from Brazil and moved to Portugal in 2019. She holds a degree in Education and is deeply passionate about literacy and child development.
Since 2018, she has been teaching in a bilingual setting, an experience that has allowed her to connect with diverse cultures and bring a unique perspective to her work. Mariana finds joy in fostering young minds and cherishes the chance to grow alongside her students.
Mariana has a passion for hiking and exploring nature, often drawing inspiration from her adventures. She enjoys discovering new books and sharing them with her students, bringing a sense of curiosity and enthusiasm into the classroom that reflects her love for learning and the outdoors.

Cindy hails from South Africa, often referred to as the Rainbow Nation. She and her husband, along with their beautiful 5-year-old daughter, relocated to Portugal three years ago. With a background in travel and tourism, Cindy spent a decade flying for the South African national airline before discovering her true passion for education.
Her commitment to working with children drives her to create an engaging learning environment where curiosity and exploration are encouraged.
Cindy’s goal is to help all students reach their full potential, inspiring them to take risks and embrace challenges in their learning journey. With her warm and supportive approach, she fosters a love for education that empowers her students to thrive both academically and personally.

Marta Cayatte

Marta Cayatte
Marta Cayatte has been a part of ISS since 2021. Growing up in a bilingual family surrounded by teachers ignited her passion for teaching and learning. She is also deeply passionate about music and performing, eagerly anticipating this year’s musical performances.
Marta believes in combining humor and creativity in her teaching, encouraging students to be themselves, ask questions, make mistakes, and enjoy a positive learning experience.
Her students know her for her vibrant personality and her ability to keep them motivated and engaged. She looks forward to meeting all the new students!

Nathalie Daemen is an educator from Belgium with over 13 years of classroom experience. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Education and a Master’s degree in Educational Studies.
Passionate about inspiring lifelong learners, Nathalie is dedicated to creating a classroom environment that sparks curiosity, nurtures passion, and supports each student’s journey as a learner.
In addition to her work in the classroom, Nathalie enjoys developing innovative curricula and mentoring fellow educators in language instruction. Outside of her professional life, she loves spending quality time with her family, reading, and continuing to grow in her teaching practice.
Nathalie loves music and concerts, enjoys reading, and is passionate about teaching.
Carolina Brandão

Carolina Brandão
Carolina is Portuguese and works as a teacher and actress. This is her third year at the International Sharing School.
In the five years leading up to her time here, she taught leisure, artistic, and enrichment activities in Portuguese public schools, focusing on drama, arts, and group development. Additionally, she served as a supporting teacher for children with special needs, a role she truly loved.
In 2018, she completed a two-year course in the promotion of educational, social, and cultural activities aimed at children and teenagers, and in 2022 she took an online course about autism to further enhance her skills.
Carolina loves theatre, cinema, singing, music, doing sports, meditation, traveling, going to the beach, and reading, with her favourite foods being sushi and Italian, and her favourite activity is spending time with family and friends.
Irene Caballero
PYP 2 Teacher | ESL Coordinator
Irene Caballero
Irene has been in education for 10 years, with the last 5 years at ISS. She has taught English in the UK and Spain, as well as Spanish as a second language in the US. Although she began her teaching career with secondary students, her passion truly flourished when she started working with primary students, finding the experience highly rewarding.
Having moved to Portugal in 2019 for love, Irene is also a proud mother to a baby boy. She holds a degree in English Literature and Linguistics, along with two master’s degrees—one in Hispanic Studies with a minor in English teaching from Auburn University and another in Teaching English/Spanish as second languages from the University of Alicante. Additionally, she has a CELTA, a DELTA in Academic Management, and is currently pursuing an iPGCE at East London University.
Irene loves cats (having two of them), is scared of fish and the sea, and enjoys spending time at home playing board games with her family.

Maria João was born on the island of Madeira but spent her childhood and adult years in Cascais. She completed her studies in history and worked at Casa dos Bicos, in the centre of mediaeval Lisbon.
In the meantime, Maria João began doing freelance translation work for periodicals, newspapers, and publishing houses. She is a mother of three, and while raising them, she found herself becoming more and more fascinated with the world of kids, schools, and education.
Since her first child started school until the last day of school of the younger one, she was an active member of Parents Associations, developing intervention projects within the school community, in collaboration with various teachers. These projects, which include theater, street art, and exhibitions, addressed important topics such as bullying, gender equality, addictions (particularly technology dependence), nutrition, and health.
Maria João loves spending time with her family. She enjoys reading, listening to music, and watching films about historical topics. Gardening is her favourite hobby.

Rozina holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Pakistan and a Master’s degree in Social Work with Children and Youth. Before joining ISS, she worked as a co-teacher in a Pakistani-French school in Islamabad. In 2021, Rozina was awarded a full-funded merit-based scholarship (Erasmus Mundus) by the European Commission, allowing her to study in Lithuania, Latvia, Slovakia, and Portugal. This is her second year at ISS as a Teaching Assistant.
Recently, Rozina presented her Master’s research at an international conference and made her first online publication. Outside of her professional endeavors, she enjoys volunteering and engaging in community service, reflecting her commitment to making a positive impact.
Rozina adores reading, solo traveling, and sports, and at 16, she, along with her friends, raised around €4000 for an orphanage based in the northern areas of Pakistan.

Mariana holds a degree in English and German Language and Literature. She began her teaching career in 2008, working with both English and Portuguese. Her journey in the IB started in 2010, and she has since accumulated extensive experience in the IB framework.
In addition to her teaching role, she serves as the Mathematics Coordinator and ICT/STEAM Coordinator. These roles allow her to bring creativity and a love for innovative problem-solving.
Before dedicating herself fully to education, Mariana’s love for the sea led her to work as a sailing instructor from a young age. She also explored a career in nautical journalism, where she combined her passion for storytelling with her expertise in maritime topics.

Currently, Lúcia teaches Visual Arts, where she combines her love for art and education. For Lúcia, the fusion of Visual Arts and education is the perfect combination, motivating her to come to school each day with a smile and excitement for teaching.

Hugh has dedicated nine years to the field of education and been at ISS since 2021. Being part of this family-oriented school, where the happiness of the children shines through every day, has been an incredible experience for him.
Three years ago, Hugh relocated to Portugal with his Portuguese-South African wife, and they welcomed their son two years ago, who is also part of the ISS family.
His background in martial arts has significantly influenced his approach to education, instilling values such as fortitude and indomitable spirit in his students, fostering personal growth alongside academic achievement.
Hugh holds a 4th-degree black belt in ITF Taekwon-Do and proudly continues a family tradition of teaching as a third-generation educator, while also enjoying various sports such as golf—where he competes in the Portuguese Mid-amateur circuit—water polo, badminton, padel, and sailing; his favorite color is turquoise.

Catarina is from Lisbon, Portugal, and has a strong background in Natural Sciences. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from ULisbon and a Master’s degree in Ecology and Animal Behaviour from Utrecht University in the Netherlands, where she observed chimpanzee behavior at the animal sanctuary Stichting AAP.
After her research experience, Ms. Catarina returned to Portugal to participate in a project at the Lisbon Zoo, marking the beginning of her career as an educator. It was during this time that she discovered her true passion for education. To further pursue this interest, she joined the International Sharing School in 2021 and is now serving as a STEAM Teacher and PYP Science Coordinator.
Catarina is passionate about traveling and loves Thailand so much that she has already been there twice (and is probably going for a third time!), enjoys spending time in nature and cherishing moments with her family, but let’s be honest: one of the things that brings her the most joy is playing video games with friends.

Studies from Sussex University. Due to her love of reading and art, her teaching style is creative and innovative, combining traditional literature with relevant global media, advertising, art and film.
Catherine is a keen traveler and enjoys exploring and embracing different cultures, traditions, foods and history. She loves to water-colour paint her travel destinations, and to try different crafts from around the world. Hiking, rock climbing and scuba diving keep her active, and she loves to listen to live music.
Catherine can free dive down to 27 meters without breathing, has loved olives since she was 5 years old, and enjoys going on motorbike road trips!

Christopher was born in Washington, D.C., and grew up in an environment rich in sports and culture. This background led him to explore various creative endeavors, such as playing the bass guitar, writing poetry and film scripts.
Chris studied Spanish language and culture, as well as psychology, at Denison University in Granville, Ohio, USA. He later pursued a Master’s in Education for Applied Linguistics at Antonio de Nebrija University in Madrid, Spain.
During his time in Madrid, he not only earned his degree but also met a remarkably beautiful Spanish woman named Paula, who would eventually become his wife and the mother of his two children.
Christopher has been in a film with Keanu Reeves (The Replacements, Dir. Howard Deutch, 2000), often works with people from all over the world as an interpreter and translator (having translated a film script for publication two summers ago), and has a strong passion for music, having been a radio DJ for 4 years in Ohio.

Russian by birth, and Portuguese after marriage, Irina teaches IB Diploma Russian Literature and develops differentiated lesson plans for both primary and secondary schools, based on class and individual needs.
Irina has a Master’s in Linguistics and Translation from the Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa (Lisbon, Portugal) and Moscow State Linguistic University (Moscow, Russian Federation), and regularly works with Pushkin.
State Russian Language Institute and Zlatoust Language School, which specializes in teaching Russian to international students. Irina is an artist and a member of the International Art Foundation & Moscow Art Society. She has curated and held various exhibitions internationally and collaborates with the Russian Art magazine and various Portuguese museums housing Russian art collections.

With over 16 years of diverse teaching experience across multiple international locations, Mr. Kinnard has taught middle and high school English in Maryland, USA, as well as in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, UAE, before taking up his current role in Portugal.

Paula Gefaell, a Spaniard by birth and Galician by heart, studied for a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish Language and Literature at the University of Salamanca and a Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language from Antonio de Nebrija University in Madrid.
She has been teaching Spanish language and literature for almost 20 years in Spain and the United States, holding qualifications to teach the American, IGCSE, Spain’s national, and IB curriculums.
Beyond the classroom, Paula is a mother of two who loves artsy and creative activities, constantly seeking new ways to become more sustainable. Environmentally friendly activities are at the top of her list.
Paula does not like bugs (mostly flying ones and creatures with more than four legs), does not binge-watch Netflix (as she feels stuck in the past), and loves to walk in nature.

Robert grew up in Spain with Welsh and German parents. At 17, he moved to the UK to study modern languages at King’s College London. Since completing university, Robert has lived and worked in France, Brazil, and China. This is now his third year at ISS.
Currently, he is pursuing a master’s degree in International Relations and Political Science at Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Robert’s main hobbies include playing football and long-distance cross-country running; he recently completed his fifth marathon.
Robert used to work as a chef, honing skills in the kitchen. A lover of modern history, he enjoys reading books on the subject. Robert is also passionate about flamenco and can dance with impressive skill and flair!

Carlos has extensive international teaching experience at schools and colleges across Europe. He earned a BSc Hons in Applied Marine Sports Science from the University of Plymouth, and completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) at Greenwich University in London before taking up teaching roles in England, the USA, Switzerland, Germany, and Italy.
Passionate about education, Carlos returned to university in Portugal, where he completed an MSc in International Business Management at ISCTE Business School in 2018. He is currently a PhD student at ISEG, the Lisbon School of Economics and Management, and has recently become an IB Examiner for Business Studies.
Carlos was born in Mozambique but grew up near Alentejo’s surfing beaches, worked in Portugal’s surf coaching industry as a young adult, became the Team Manager for the British Junior Surf Team after moving to the UK, leading the team to the World Surfing Games in 2007, and still uses his surf coaching skills to teach his daughters how to ride the waves.

An evolutionary biologist and biochemist by education and training with several peer-reviewed research papers on the topics of snake venom proteomics, haemostasis, and bioactivity.
Francisco holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Biology with a specialization in Herpetology. He spent time in Australia publishing snake venom research as part of his Doctorate (Ph.D) work. However, covid changed his priorities and he opted for a life in the education sphere.

Joana is originally from Portugal and holds a teaching degree in Physics and Chemistry from the University of Minho in Braga. After completing a Specialization in Evolution and Origin of Life, also from the University of Minho, Joana moved to London, UK, in 2007 to teach IB MYP Sciences and Maths, as well as DP Physics at an international school.
In 2009, she returned to Portugal and continued teaching IB MYP Sciences and DP Physics and Chemistry SL/HL in international schools, having also taught Theory of Knowledge (TOK) for a short period.
Since 2010, she has coordinated the Science Department in two schools and became an IB Examiner for DP Physics in 2017.

Her dedication to fostering strong relationships with students, parents, faculty, and the community has been central to her success in leadership and program development, including her contributions to the Pastoral and Tutor Program for MYP.

As a curious mind, Muhsin Erhan has always pursued knowledge to explore and understand the world around him. Inspired by figures like Richard Feynman and Frank Oppenheimer, he believes that knowing is more than recognizing; it’s about diving deep, testing, and experiencing the ‘eureka’ moments.
This philosophy drives his teaching approach, encouraging students to make mistakes, learn, and grow. With extensive experience in IB DP and MYP Physics, Science, Mathematics, and Theory of Knowledge, Muhsin has guided numerous students to prestigious scholarships at institutions like Harvard, Oxford, and Yale.
His passion for aerospace, rockets, and machine design has inspired students in the Rocket Science Club last year and in the Beamline Club this year, where they explore nuclear physics experiments for CERN competitions.

Nuno holds a Masters’ degree in Sports Science with a major in Physical Education, from the University of Human Kinetics in Lisbon. Later, he also completed two post-graduate diplomas, one in Sport Management and one in Teaching English as a Second Language.
Nuno has been teaching for 17 years, and beyond Portugal he has lived and worked as a teacher in Australia and in Spain. He has also coached volleyball and football, both to youth teams.
Besides teaching Nuno’s biggest passion is overland traveling and nature photography. He has already explored and traveled long journeys across all continents, always trying to capture nature’s beauty through his camera lens.

Pedro grew up surrounded by the thermal springs of São Pedro do Sul in Portugal. As an international educator at heart, Pedro is a certified IB Programme Leader and has conducted evaluations of schools implementing IB programs worldwide. He has also served as a teacher, IB coordinator, and Principal in international schools in Portugal, England, and Brazil.

Discovering the International Baccalaureate (IB) programme provided her with the tools she was seeking. In 2021, Sofia joined the International Sharing School, where she currently teaches MYP Mathematics.

She has been the Careers and University Counsellor at ISST, as well as an MYP and DP Physics and Chemistry teacher, drawing on 15+ years of experience as a high school teacher and in leadership roles.
The diverse background across education, scientific research, and curriculum leadership has equipped her with a wide range of skills and insights. In addition, she has published textbooks, provided training to teachers, and actively engage in volunteering initiatives.
Sofia is passionate about marketing, having completed an Executive Graduate Program in Marketing Management to deepen her knowledge in the field.
She enjoys traveling and has explored around 45 countries, immersing herself in diverse cultures. In her downtime, Sofia loves reading, often losing herself in the pages of captivating books!

Ted is originally from California, where he attended Pepperdine University in Malibu, gaining an extensive foundation in Calculus. Inspired by the serenity of the coast, he often practiced his mathematical skills on the beaches of Malibu, drawing parallels to Aristotle’s reflective moments on the shores of Thessaloniki.
A passionate sports enthusiast, Ted has attended numerous Dodgers and Lakers games and enjoys staying active through various sports and outdoor activities.
Recently, he applied to become a DP examiner, furthering his dedication to education. Now residing in Portugal, Ted is embracing this new chapter of his life with enthusiasm.
Ted has had some incredible experiences, including seeing Kobe play at the Forum, swimming in the Dead Sea, and coaching Little League baseball in Kuwait!

Veronika Fitz
Veronika holds a PhD in Biology, awarded with distinction from the Technical University of Dresden in Germany, and a Diploma in Molecular Biology, also with distinction, from the University of Vienna, Austria. In addition to her academic achievements, she completed a Furniture Intensive program at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Maine, USA, in 2017.
Currently, Veronika is a Laboratory Technician at ISS in Taguspark, a position she has held since 2023. Prior to this, she served as Laboratory Manager at the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência (IGC) in Oeiras, Portugal, from 2021 to 2023.
Veronika’s early career involved significant research contributions as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Max Planck Institute of Cell Biology and Genetics in Dresden, Germany, from 2015 to 2016, and as a PhD student at the same institute from 2012 to 2015.
Veronika has a deep love for reading, often losing herself in the pages of captivating books that take her on new adventures. She enjoys music, finding joy in various genres that lift her spirits.

Alexandra Bochmann
Alexandra Bochmann holds a degree in Painting; a Master’s in Visual Art and Intermedia and a Post-Graduate course in Set Design.
Her educational qualifications include an iPGCE and the CELTA. She taught in language academies for 15 years in London and Lisbon before transitioning to international school teaching.
Alexandra is an IB MYP Senior Examiner for Arts and recently was also accepted for the position of IB DP Visual Art Examiner. Outside the classroom Alexandra often designs for theatre, most recently for The Lisbon Players company.
Alexandra loves gardening; reading, playing board games with her family and making a mess with paints. She is an accomplished violinist and recently formed a string quartet dedicated to the music of Portuguese-speaking countries; Quarteto Morabeza.

Lucía Vilaplana is originally from Spain and brings her expertise in Visual Arts and Modern Languages to both Primary and Secondary education. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts from the Universidad de Sevilla and a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Universidad San Pablo CEU.
With over 15 years of experience teaching in international schools, Lucía is dedicated to fostering creativity and a love of learning in her students.
Her passion for art and languages enriches her teaching, making her classroom a dynamic space for cultural exploration and artistic expression.
Lucía loves horse riding and spending time with family and friends. A good book is always a great companion for her.
Mafalda Marques

Mafalda Marques
Mafalda has studied Singing and Musicology, and more recently, she has dedicated herself to the study of the Cognitive Sciences, specialising in the Neuroscience of Music.
She is a strong advocate for music’s impact on our cognitive well-being. Throughout the years, she dedicated herself to promoting social change through music, working on projects such as the Portuguese “El Sistema of Orchestras”, and intervening in hospitals and prisons.
Parallel to her activity as a Musician and Musicologist, she began teaching in Music Conservatoriums in 1997. Mafalda started to work in International Schools in September 2015 and integrated the ISS project in September 2019.
Mafalda is an Ocean Conservationist and a proud member of the Shark Education Institute, while also serving as a Global Schools Advocate, and she previously worked as a journalist for the Portuguese News Agency!

Marco Fernandes holds a Bachelor of Arts in Dramatic Arts (Honours) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. He has taught Theatre and English at schools in Thailand and South Africa and is now based in Portugal.
With experience in acting, directing, and Physical Theatre, Marco applies his creative intellect to help young performers hone their skills, develop a sense of self, and grow their expressive abilities.
He is currently completing his Master’s in Performing Arts at Universidade NOVA de Lisboa and continues to work as a theatre-maker with companies such as The Lisbon Players. Marco is passionate about fostering creativity and confidence in his students, encouraging them to explore their artistic potential.

Maria João holds a PhD in Architecture with a specialization in Biomimetic Design, and a Post-Graduate degree in Digital Architecture. Her research focuses on integrating biomimetic design methodologies into educational frameworks, particularly within the IB and the MYP.
Since 2022, Maria João has been teaching Design and ICT at ISS, where she has enjoyed guiding students in discovering their creative potential and problem-solving skills through technology and design.
As an educator, her goal is to inspire students to explore and innovate, think critically, and engage deeply with the world around them. Maria João is excited to bring this perspective into the classroom and to work together with parents to ensure that each child has a fulfilling and enriching school year.
Maria João once rushed to a lecture by Siza Vieira and tripped on the auditorium stairs, ending up meeting one of her idols face-to-face; her travel itinerary often includes more stops at iconic buildings than actual landmarks; and she has such an obsession with sneakers that her closet looks like a high-end shoe store.

With extensive experience in education and leadership, Paul has held roles such as Director of Technology and Head of Department. Specializing in Design Technology, Computer Science, and Art & Design, he has experience in teaching students from Kindergarten to Diploma level IB curriculum, emphasizing the importance of cross-curricular connections.
His commitment and experience in pastoral care including in the role of Boarding Housemaster, fosters a supportive and nurturing environment, promoting positive outcomes for all students. Paul transitioned into teaching after a career of building submarines.
With a background in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, his industry experience enriches his teaching, providing valuable insights and expertise in his subject areas.
As a boy was a professional Opera singer performing multiple operas at the Sydney Opera House. He loves DIY projects, construction and renovation projects.
Yuri Marchese

Yuri Marchese
Yuri Marchese, born in Vitória, Brazil in 1989, holds a Master’s in Music from the University of Aveiro and a Bachelor’s from the State University of Londrina. He studied under renowned guitarists like Fábio Zanon and Dejan Ivanović.
At 22, he began touring internationally, performing in major cities across Brazil, Portugal, Spain, and the Czech Republic. He has won several prestigious awards, including 1st place at the IX Concurso Jovens Músicos (Rio de Janeiro) and the Leiria International Guitar Competition (Portugal).
Yuri has been teaching classical guitar since 2007, guiding top young talents in both Brazil and Portugal. He currently teaches at the International Sharing School (Oeiras) and is touring with Quarteto Lopes-Graça, performing music for guitar and string quartet.
He loves guitars, especially classical and electric ones; he enjoys progressive heavy metal, believing the more complex, the better; and he is a devoted Palmeiras fan, owning nearly 30 jerseys!

Benedita studied Neuroscience and Cognitive Sciences at the University of Sussex before returning to Portugal to pursue Behavioral Neuroscience. With experience in cognitive rehabilitation, she has also taught neuroscience at secondary schools.
Her passion lies in ensuring that all students have equitable access to education and support tailored to their individual needs. Benedita believes in fostering a classroom environment that values diversity and promotes understanding among students. By implementing inclusive strategies, she aims to empower her students.
Benedita’s commitment to inclusion extends beyond the classroom as she actively engages with the school community to promote best practices and raise awareness of the importance of inclusivity in education.

Filipa, born and raised in Portugal, holds a degree in Clinical Psychology and has dedicated her career to improving the quality of life of those she works with.
She brings over 15 years of experience as an Applied Behavior Therapist at a renowned Psychology Clinic, where she specialized in developing and implementing Behavioral Intervention Plans for children and adolescents with special educational needs. These included developmental delays, autism spectrum disorders, learning difficulties, anxiety, and more.
In 2022, Filipa embraced a new challenge by joining the ISS community, where she now focuses on supporting the well-being of both students and staff, making a meaningful contribution to their overall mental health and academic success.
When not working, Filipa values the balance between mental stimulation and relaxation in her free time. She enjoys immersing herself in a good book, solving challenging jigsaw puzzles, and the peacefulness of picnics in the park.

Frederico was born and raised in Lisbon, Portugal, where he completed his school studies and concluded his Masters Degree in Psychology at ISPA.
He has always been passionate about supporting young people, helping them succeed and fulfill their potential. He has worked in several roles within the Wellbeing and Education sectors for the past 15 years across Lisbon and London.
When he’s not at school he can be found reading, listening to music, watching movies or attending concerts/festivals.
Frederico once met his favorite writer at a book signing on his birthday, has attended hundreds of music shows and festivals, and used to wear several layers of hair gel!

Inês’s journey has been fueled by a desire to make a difference, initially through biomedical research and later through education. With a degree in Biology from the Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa, professional training in Biomedicine, and a PhD in Molecular Microbiology and Biotechnology, she gained extensive experience in research.
From 2021, Inês pursued further specialization in psychology, psychopathology, specific learning disorders, and inclusion, driven by her passion for student support and well-being. Joining ISS as a learning support and inclusion teacher, she cherishes the chance to positively impact students’ lives.
Inês loves playing guitar, composing, and singing. A Christmas enthusiast, she celebrates the season with family for months each year. She also co-created Fábulas para ensinar, aprendendo, a children’s book series that teaches values like friendship, forgiveness, and love through animal stories and songs.

Juliana holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the Instituto Universitário de Ciências Psicológicas, Sociais e da Vida in Lisbon and is a certified clinical psychologist by the Ordem dos Psicólogos Portugueses.
With prior experience as an ABA therapist, Juliana has worked extensively in one-on-one settings with children and adolescents, focusing on their unique developmental needs. Her background in clinical psychology equips her with the skills necessary to support students effectively.
Juliana is dedicated to creating a safe and nurturing environment for all students, believing in the importance of holistic approaches to education.
Juliana is passionate about climbing, often seeking new heights and challenges, and she shares her home with a beloved cat named Bast. Additionally, she has a rich background in the arts, having spent eight years as an actress in amateur theatre.

Marta holds a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology from ISPA University and she has been teaching at our school for the past three years, where she discovered a deep passion for working with young children.
Outside the classroom, Marta extends her love for working with children by participating in summer camps, which offers her a unique perspective on today’s younger generations.
In her free time, she enjoys taking dance classes and spending time in nature, often going for walks to relax and stay active.
Before joining ISS, Marta was very afraid of dogs, but the school’s pet-friendly environment helped her become comfortable enough to cuddle with them over the years! She loves engaging in adventure activities at high altitudes, such as climbing and navigating high ropes courses, and she completed her Erasmus in Rome, where she learned Italian and now takes every opportunity to practice and improve her fluency!

Sofia began her career by completing a professional course in socio-cultural animation, focusing on developing programs for children with learning challenges at a local association.
She then pursued a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology, specializing in cognitive-behavioral aspects, while maintaining a strong interest in neurodiversity and learning challenges.
During her studies, Sofia undertook a professional internship at an Applied Behavioral Analysis clinic, where she later joined the team of therapists. In this role, she managed multiple clinical cases and provided support to students at various international schools in the Lisbon area as a behavioral therapist.
Sofia’s favorite book of all time is The Little Prince; she is a cat lover and considers herself a crazy cat person; and she loves sushi.

With over 16 years of diverse work experience, Andrea has successfully led projects in various industries, including pharmaceutical, creative agencies, and higher education.
Since joining ISS, Andrea has held a position in Operations and has been instrumental in coordinating various school activities, including events, fieldtrips, the school bus service, and after-school programs.
Andrea writes in different styles of calligraphy, loves everything arts and crafts—including drawing, knitting, and making projects with her Cricut—and is passionate about traveling and getting to know new cultures!

Elizabete was born in Angola and moved to Portugal at the age of three. She grew up in Algés, near Lisbon, where she developed a passion for Mathematics and Economics, leading her to focus on these subjects during her studies.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources from Universidade Lusófona, driven by her interest in the social and human aspects of management and economy. Although she has not worked in a corporate human resources role, Elizabete has extensive experience working with the public and engaging with people.
Since joining ISS Oeiras Valley, she has found great joy in her role, managing over 700 children and contributing to a vibrant school community, despite not having children of her own.
Elizabete enjoys reading, spending time with family and friends, and participating in sports and outdoor activities in her free time; she makes it a point to go to the gym regularly, is always planning her next trip or activity, and also knits and crochets.

As a school nurse, Inês is committed to delivering exceptional healthcare services within an educational setting. She is skilled in assessing and managing common childhood illnesses and injuries, as well as delivering health education programs that empower students and their families.

Isabel holds a college degree in Law and a Master’s in European Law. With 28 years of experience at Banco Santander, Isabel joined the ISS team in 2023, hoping to contribute to our community for at least 50 years.
As a proud mother of three—two boys and a girl—and a dog owner, Isabelbrings a warm, family-oriented perspective to the school.
Isabel has been volunteering with Refood Parede since 2016, giving back to her community with dedication.
In her youth, she was an avid mountain climber, conquering the summit of Mount Atlas in North Africa at 4,167 meters. She also enjoys sailing with her family, embracing the calm and adventure the sea brings.

Maria is originally from Finland, where she completed her IB Diploma before moving to Ireland to earn a Bachelor’s in International Hotel Management. This path led her to work with prestigious 5-star hotels, including the Mandarin Oriental and Four Seasons, and to live in Ireland, the UK, Switzerland, and finally, Portugal. She also holds a Postgraduate Certificate from Nova IMS in Lisbon in Market Research, as well as a TEFL Certificate.
However, Maria’s proudest achievement is being a mother to her two boys, who teach her more about life every day than any degree ever could. She is passionate about understanding children’s behavior and believes that children thrive through healthy boundaries rather than punishments.

Rita began her design journey in 2018 by earning a Bachelor’s degree in Global Design from IADE. She then started her professional career at a digital marketing agency in Lisbon, where she developed websites and digital products for a variety of clients and brands.
Eager to deepen her expertise, Rita pursued a Postgraduate degree in Web UX/UI, also at IADE, which she completed in 2024. Her passion for user-centered design and creative problem-solving has been a driving force throughout her career.
Outside of work, Rita cherishes spending time with her family and her two cats. She also enjoys dining out with friends, watching crime documentaries, and getting lost in a good book.
Rita has her own horse, Legos—named after one of her favorite childhood toys by coincidence. In her younger years, she showcased her musical talents as a flutist in an orchestra and also mastered the violin. A former registred golf player, Rita’s interests reflect his appreciation for creativity, discipline, and adventure.

Marisa graduated in Law from the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon (1994-1999) and has been a member of the Funchal Regional Council of the Portuguese Lawyers Association since 2000. With extensive experience, she has practiced law and advocacy in various Portuguese and foreign companies.
From 2017 to 2021, Marisa served in Political/Public Office, further broadening her understanding of legal frameworks and governance. In 2023, she joined ISS in Oeiras as a Lawyer, where she applies her legal expertise to support the institution’s mission and uphold its values.
Marisa is dedicated to fostering a positive environment for the school community, ensuring compliance with legal standards.
